HOLIDAY: Secretary's Day is Wednesday, April 26

Secretary’s Day was created to attract more people to administrative careers. In 1952, C. King Woodbridge, president of Dictaphone Corporation and Mary Barrett, president of the National Secretaries Association hired Harry Klemfus of Young and Rubicam to devise a campaign. Due to their efforts, Charles Sawyer, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, proclaimed that June 1-7 would be the first National Secretaries Week. And that June 4 would be Secretary’s Day. In 1955 the week was changed to the last full week in April and Secretary’s Day would be the Wednesday of that week. In 1981, the week was re-named Professional Secretaries Week. Again in 2000 the week was re-named Administrative Professionals Week by the International Association of Administrative Professionals.
